Experience an honest, inspiring journey into the heart of what it means to be human. A sacred fire and open sky in the old mission ruins, surround you as a small Anishnaabeg family share their 18 000 year-old story, one gifted to them through generations of elders.

LUNCH IN THE LANGUAGE: Are you interested in learning Anishnaabemowin? The language of the Anishnaabek? Then please join us in a delicious healthy lunch immersed in the Anishnaabemowin language. Come out and learn a few words or phrases for yourself. Participate in the preparation of traditional meals being prepared by the expert chefs and fluent language speakers from Wikwemikong. Aambe Niwiisnidaa minwaa Boojwedaa!

STILT WALKING: Looking for a new perspective on life? Well we have just the thing for you. Come out and learn to walk on hands free stilts. (no experience necessary) "but I don't have stilts" your saying? Absolutely not a problem because we have the supplies and you will learn to build them yourself. We have been teaching people to walk on stilts for almost two decades and we will teach you one step at a time and every step is one step closer to fulfilling that childhood dream... Running away and joining the circus!. Please bring a good pair of hiking boots or Running shoes. These are essential for safety, comfort and stability.

FORAGING: Manitoulin Island is a unique environment known far and wide specifically for its variety of vegetation. Come along on this intimate journey and learn what is available and abundant. You will never go hungry in the forest, if you know what to look for. Foraging is not only fun but an important skill for anybody to have in this day and age.

TRADITIONAL STORYTELLING WORKSHOP: Traditional Storytelling has been a way of life for the Anishnaabek People since time immemorial. How has this time honoured tradition translated into the 21st Century? Come and join Debajehmujig's own Artistic Director and Storyteller Joe Osawabine to explore storytelling and what it means to be a storyteller in trodays day and age. Joe has spent the past five years travelling the globe sharing the stories of his ancestors, but is very delighted to be here at home for this summer. He would be honoured if you'd join him in a cup of freshly brewed cedar tea as he unravels a story or two just for you. Set in the backdrop of the historical Holy Cross Ruins in Wikwemikong.

LANTERN MAKING WORKSHOP- Looking to bring a little more light into your life? Then please come join us in this fun and engaging workshop. You will learn techniques to make your very own lantern, perfect for enhancing, the atmosphere in your home or cottage. Come for a single session and create a delightful wee lantern or Come for the entire session to create a more elaborate illuminated creation. This workshop Culminates in a group lantern exhibition on the final day. Invite your family and friends to join us in the light. You are more than welcome to take your lantern home with you, but please bring it back on Friday August 14, 2015 for our big lantern parade down to the bay to kick off our Fire Art Show!

PUPPET MAKING: Learn about different types of puppets and puppet techniques including but not limited to: Shadow Puppets, Sock Puppets, Hand Puppets, Rod Puppets, Larger than Life 2 or 3 people Puppets and Marionettes. Learn about Storytelling and creating characters. Build your own puppets and participate in a group creation piece. Hands on instructions and you get to keep any puppets you make! Culminates in a Performance on Thursday and Friday night.

DEBAJEHMUJIG CREATION CENTRE

FIRE ART SHOW Bring your lanterns and your sense of wonder. Debaj will create a spectacular "larger than life" sculpture to set ablaze against the backdrop of Manitowaning Bay. We will parade the lanterns down to the beach and light our sculpture to dazzle the crowds. Feel free to bring anything that illuminates to add to the night sky.

Boat Safety


Facts:
89% of boaters who drown aren't wearing lifejackets.
 A third of all alcohol related deaths occur while boating.
Alcohol is a factor in almost half of all boat related deaths.

What To Do:
Don't Drink and Boat
Always wear the correct type of PFD and wear it properly.
Ensure your boat has the proper 'marine safety equipment'.
